  • 3rd Welcome back!  It's a new semester and a fresh start.  The first three days of class are dedicated to reviewing my procedures and rules for the class.
  • 4th Procedures cont'd and review.  Begin material from Ch. 1
  • 7th Ch. 1, B.R. How does science help us to solve everyday problems?  How do we solve a problem when we only have a little information about the issue?, Issue textbooks, multiple activities
  • 8th Ch. 1, B.R. Create a scenario in which there is a problem that you must come up with a hypothesis to solve that problem.  You must also set up an experiment to test your hypothesis and be able to identify the independant and dependant variables as well as the control group.
  • 9th Ch. 1, B.R. Identify the properties that an individual must exhibit in order to be considered alive.  List and describe the seven themes of biology. 
  • 10th Ch. 1, B.R. What was so controversial about Darwin's claims of evolution?  Why?  What is cancer and why is it so dangerous?
  • 11th Ch. 1, No B.R. for today.  You will begin working on your study guide and view a video about the scientific method and how forensic scientists use it.
  • 14th Ch. 1 Biology and You.  B.R. How do you interact and affect the world you live in?  How can a mother transfer HIV to her unborn child?  What disease will kill more Americans this year than HIV/AIDS?
  • 15th Ch. 1 Microscope lab B.R. How can we cure cancer?  How can we stop global warming?  If you have a cure for cancer and know an individual that will die without it; should you give them the cure if they cannot afford to pay for it?
  • 16th Ch. 1 Scientific Method Lab (GAK) B.R. How can you use the scientific method to make a new product?  What did you learn from this chapter?

  • 25th Chapter 15 Classification B. R. What is convergent evolution?  How many kingdoms are there in the classification system?  How many approximate known species are there?
  • 28th Library to work on global warming paper.  Due Feb. 18th
  • 29th Dichotomous key  B.R. How do scientists construct the phylogeny for a particular species?  How can physical features tell us how certain species may be related?

  • 28th Cells and Cell Processes B.R. What are the three parts of the cell theory and who said what?  Complete a Vin Diagram to compare and contrast prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
